Summary:

Robin Trower's latest album, "Something's about to change" is an essential purchase for Blues lovers

Robin Trower has been making music for over fifty years, first finding fame as a member of Procul Harum (he joined shortly after the release of “White shade of pale”, and then under his own name.  That in itself tells you a lot about what to expect – people don’t get a career like that unless they’re making great music.  One thing you know you’re guaranteed to get from a Robin Trower album is superb guitar playing, and that’s certainly the case here – this is a rare album where if you took away the vocals it would still be a compelling listen, just for the beautiful guitar work.  The vocals too are certain to be good, and again thats another feature of this album.

Blues fans really are spoilt for choice when it comes to great albums this year – Dan Patlansky, Ian Siegal, Joe Bonamassa, Beth Hart and Robin Trower are all releasing great albums, with the prospect of many more great releases later in the year.  It’s going to be a tough year to judge what the best Blues album of the year is, but Robin Trower must surely be a strong contender.

I can’t stress how good the guitar is on this album – I could listen to it all day.  In fact that’s exactly what I have done today while working.  Along with the excellent vocals the guitar work is a highlight of the album.  Robin Trower also plays bass on the album with two musicians working with him – one on drums and one adding some subtle touches on the organ that just add that little bit extra to the songs.  The guitar solos are sublime – you could pick almost any song as an example, but I’ll opt for “Good morning midnight”

If you like your Blues slow and soulful then this album is hard to beat – an essential purchase.

“Something’s about to change” will be released on 9th March 2015 via Manhaton/V12 records.
