Spin is the fourth album from Romeos Daugher. It seems hard to believe but it’s 27 years since the release of their self-titled 1988 debut album. Sadly the band split in the early Nineties, but happily reformed a few years ago and released the excellent album “Rapture”. Now three years on from that they’re back with “Spin”.
So, first impressions? Well, Leigh Matty’s voice is as beautiful as ever, the music is perfect and the songs are great.
Brief comments on a couple of tracks…
The album kicks off with “Touch” – a great song – plenty of guitars and a strong rhythm combine with Leigh’s vocals to make a great rock song.
Next up is the equally strong “Already gone” – again a strong rock song, but this time with a really good chorus. I’d say that based on the half-dozen or so listen’s I’ve had of the album then this is my favourite song. I hope they include it in their live set when they tour.
The acoustic guitar comes out for “Tonight” and initially it’s just acoustic guitar and vocals before the rest of the band join in.
My first impressions were right – this is another great album from Romeo’s Daughter and I’m sure the fans are going to love it – I certainly do. Now I’m looking forward to hearing some of the songs played live.
“Spin” is out now.
