Room of the Mad Robots – Pre Fest Interview Wacken 2014

Room of the Mad Robots  are the Hungarian winners of this year’s Wacken Metal Battle. They play at Wacken along with all the other Metal Battle winners from all over the world to compete for the Over All Metal Battle Champion!

Room of Mad Robots, HungaryCan you give the readers a quick introduction to the band.

We have been formed in 2006, the creative core of the band is the same since then. Our aim from the beginning was to create some original music regardless of any genres or subgenres. We are past a few evolution changes, a few “dream-come-true”-s and a lot of useful experiences, negative and positive. We gave up the hope to be a financially self-sustaining band, our only motivation is to create and play music which we love. We are now writing our 3rd studio album, and it seems it will be better than anything we have ever created.

How would you describe your sound.

Always learning and evolving. Our first studio album was about sterile perfectionism and understandability, we started from there. Now we are creating our new album with as live recording as it is possible without metronome, as little editing and additional effects as possible to grasp the power which lies in the musical harmony between the core of the band. We have a lot of influences and different elements in our music, which we call “Metal how we like it”. We are usually adventuring in psychedelic, stoner, math, grunge and extreme metal to create our groove oriented music.

How would you describe the metal music scene in your country. What has changed over the last few years?

It is a rather sensitive topic and while we are good at it, we do not want to get new enemies. Let’s summarize as a lot of a downsides and a few upsides.

Why did you enter the WOA Metal Battle Competition?

We wanted to enter a competition which we would actually lose. We failed miserably.

What was your initial reaction when you found out that you have won & you were playing at Wacken?

We expected it, but we did not admit it before to ourselves.

What was the best and worst part of the competition for you?

Performing was the best experience, we had a really high morale in the band. Worse was waiting for the announcement of the winner after knowing that we are not in the 2nd-5th.

Would you recommend the competition to other bands? Any hints/tips for bands that are looking to enter?

Yes. 420/666.

Wacken 2014 Metal BattleWhat can the audience expect from you at the festival.

All band members will show their wiener at the end of the concert.

What has been the bands biggest achievement so far?

Clearly our studio recordings, and supporting Ozzy in 2009.

Have you ever been to Wacken before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?

We did not have the chance, unfortunately. Always wanted it though.

What is your opinion of the Wacken line-up?

Never ever put Motorhead and Carcass into the same time slot.

Can you sum up Wacken in one sentence?

It is a fucking cool opportunity to play here.

Any message you wish to pass on to the PM readers?
