In 2013, Runrig celebrated their 40th anniversary, but now they’re bringing things to an end. “The Story” will be the band’s 14th and final studio album, and there will also be a UK tour.
Runrig have always had a distinctive sound with their music really having a strong Celtic folk music influence, so you have a really nice blend of Rock and Folk. While there are other bands that blend folk and rock, Runrig with their strong Celtic roots have always stood out. With this latest album, Runrig continue with this successful formula, and the result is a superb album.
Comments on a few tracks…..
Runrig have always celebrated their SCottish heritage, singing in both Gaelic and English, and this album is no different in that respect, and right from the very start of the album you hear Gaelic as “The Story” starts off in Gaelic – in fact the verses are all in Gaelic while the chorus is in English. You can check out the video for “The Story” at the end of this review.
“Rise and fall” is a beautiful song – a soft slow song, the mellow vocals are backed by soft music – primarily drums and keyboard, with the guitar mainly being used in the mainly instrumental sections of the song
“Elegy is a short instrumental piece – soft piano with other instruments adding a haunting background sound, it’s a lovely short track.
“The place where the rivers run” is a great lively track
This is a fantastic album – in fact the only downside to it is the fact that it’s the final Runrig album.
