Ryders Creed – Ryders Creed

Ryders Creed should surely call themselves Apollo Creed because of the way they come out swinging throughout their self titled debut album. Since they formed just over a year ago they have toured hard and it shows judging by how they have honed these ten songs down.

Recently released on Off Yer Rocka Recordings, they head straight out of the blocks with opener ‘Headspace’. Its hefty riffing, tasty guitar solos backed by a soulful vocal from Ryan Hulme set the bar high. Other highlights include the punchy hard rock and rock radio airplay hooks and melodies in ‘Promise’ as the guitars of Lee Spencer and Myles Cooper weave around the big choruses. The grinding main riff during ‘On The Road’ adds the muscle to the chest beating lyrics portraying their touring cycle with lyrics that include “The power of the crowd, we were born to break the mould. We were playing hard and living loud, we’re riding free on the road”.

The headbanging riffs in ‘Set You Free’ hit harder as they back up the solos when they fire in during one of the heaviest tracks on the album. A fist pumping drum piece midway provides the foil for a showstopping lead vocal. ‘The Only Thing I’m Good At’ is a Southern rock tinged intense ballad with wistful acoustic guitar lines and sparse slide work topped off by a drawled lead vocal. The party mood returns for ‘Ryder’ as this feel good stomper is peppered with dextrous guitar work. My personal favourite is ‘Raise The Hoof’, first single taken from the album. Another heavy number, it kicks out the jams full throttle.
