Shadow of Acolyte are an East Midlands Hard Rock/Metal band influenced by Iron Maiden, Diamond Head, Chrome Molly, Marillion and Rush. The band formed in 2007 and in 2008 released their debut EP. Now, five years on, they are finally releasing their debut album.
For a band that’s apparently been around six years in the East Midlands, I’m surprised I haven’t heard of them before considering the number of gigs of both big and small bands I’ve been to in the East Midlands over the last few years. A look on facebook offers some clues – until August they didn’t think to join the site, so missed out on huge opportunities to promote the band, and there are no gigs mentioned on there. Equally they don’t appear to have a website and only joined Twitter in August. So till now they’ve been practically invisible, so its no wonder nobody seems to have heard of them before.
Listening to the album, it’s not likely to win them huge numbers of fans – it’s an ok album, but not great, and frankly doesn’t do anything to raise them above the level of the many pub bands there are around. The vocals are adequate but just aren’t that impressive. Musically too things are more adequate rather than great – there’s nothing very inspiring here I’m afraid.
