Bristol-based producer and creative indie powerhouse She Makes War releases her new single ‘Undone’, the first installment of the double A side ‘Undone \ London Bites’, taken from the forthcoming album Brace For Impact, which is out 5th October.
The songs will be released in two stages, with ‘Undone’ available online now and ‘London Bites’ coming on the 28th September. Analogue music fans are invited to order gorgeous hand packaged vinyl-effect CD singles direct from the artist via Bandcamp.
Poignant and powerful, the track is just over three minutes of fuzzy, punk infused intensity and was written in a daze the day after Laura’s grandmother Constance died last May. The monster guitars in ‘Undone’ deliver a palpable rage at the bad things that happen to good people with the song acting as an openhearted rallying cry against the British stiff upper lip brigade.
“We need to give ourselves a break”, she says. “Giving ourselves time to feel devastated doesn’t make us weak.” ‘I was told I feel things too much’, she sang on 2016’s ‘Paper Thin’ (featuring guest vocals by Belly’s Tanya Donelly), but with age, experience and the bitter state of the world comes confirmation empathy should be treasured as a rare strength.
It the follows the release of single ‘Devastate Me’, which is an unrestrained commentary on the impact of our collective online presence on our lives. The video (watch here) celebrates various facets of life offline and is a reminder of the dangerous culture of digital reliance dominating modern life.
She Makes War has built a strong following, having played over 600 shows in the UK and Europe and receiving extensive online acclaim plus support from BBC 6 Music. Her last album Direction Of Travel earned plays from Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson, Chris Hawkins, Lauren Laverne and Gideon Coe, as well as John Kennedy at Radio X and Alex Baker at Kerrang.
A fiercely devoted, independent DIY force, She Makes War has crafted her success from a close relationship with fans, placing importance on her music’s physical form and an emphasis on the live experience.
Equally at home playing heartbreaking pin-drop solo sets and fronting her explosive five piece band, she brings the experience back to its core by constantly finding new ways of communicating songs to people, striving to make art a part of the fabric of everyday life.
She Makes War will be heading out on a headline tour in October with her explosive live supergroup. Tickets are available from www.shemakeswar.com and the full list of dates can be found below.
