Summary:

as a whole album it’s all a cracking listen. Perhaps the perfect remedy to the saccharin coated sentiment of the past holiday season.

Sister - Disguised VulturesSwedish four-piece Sister are back with their follow-up to their first full length album ‘Hated’. Recorded with Martin Sweet and Thomas Nirbrant, their second studio album ‘Disguised Vultures’ is set to be released on January 21st 2014 on Metal Blade Records, with the first single ‘Sick’ having been released back in October 2013.

Album opener ‘My Enemy’ gets the listener straight into the music, there are no slow build-ups and no messing about, if you’re not expecting it, the first few bars of attitude filled music will hit you square in the face.

This is pretty much how the album plays throughout. Title track ‘Disguised Vultures’ has a great groove, while ‘Sick’ has a real catchy hook that hammers along nicely with plenty of that same attitude and swagger that is prevalent in all ten of the songs on offer.

The second single due for release, ‘Naked’ stands out as the only real break in pace in the album, although don’t be fooled into thinking this is going to be some schmaltzy ballad, it’s as raw and sleazy a song as you’re ever likely to hear. There is a real sense of darkness to it that is intense and almost addictive.

The album closes with ‘Please Kill Me’ which is anthemic in its sound, but in a dark and twisted way. Jamie’s vocals sing and snarl like he holds the whole world in contempt. It is probably the perfect song to conclude proceedings.
Whether intentional or not ‘Disguised Vultures’ is hard to define, there are elements of punk/metal/rock throughout the album. Although the songwriting quality in ‘Naked’ is by far best, as a whole album it’s all a cracking listen. Perhaps the perfect remedy to the saccharin coated sentiment of the past holiday season, and in the coming year I can well imagine Sister whipping crowds into a frenzy at various festivals and their live shows.
