Skam – It’s Come to This…cd

skamI first heard Skam on the latest The Answer/The Union tour when it hit Manchester, and what I heard was good, I had missed a lot of their set as I was Interviewing Paul from The Answer with a colleague.
So I was eager to hear the cd, and what a cd it is. This is a cd full of Classic Rock tracks, that seriously kick some ass.
From the opening track, ‘Soldiers of Rock’, Skam demonstrate just how good a take on modern classic rock they have, littering the opening track with great guitar riff’s followed by a fantastically played solo.
This show of strength continues with ‘Dead From The Waist Down’, which includes a killer chorus, sung by singer Steve Hill with the passion and power that a rock singer should have.
The other members of the band can hold a tune as well, in evident on other tracks like ‘No lies’ and ‘Massacre’ with drummer Ray ‘X-Ray’ Peverill and Bassist Matt Gilmore providing a solid rhythm section and powerful harmonies sounding a bit like Metallica.
‘Going Away’ shows hints of a slightly different direction, this is a much more laid back track, and though it is not as hard or heavy as the rest of the tracks on this cd, it does contain a very good solo, this track provide’s a welcome interlude before the power of ‘Weapon’ hits.
‘Weapon’ contains one of the best riffs on the album, the band executing the classic rock formula brilliantly, this is very nearly my favorite song on the cd.

However Skam seemed to have saved the best till last, as ‘Revealing’ is easily the best track on this cd. Here we have Skam at their best, and Steves best vocal performance yet. This track sounds great on the album, but is an absolute killer when played live. After the first chorus has finished, the drums kick in, taking it to a new level, and when you think that’s it, its over, it turns round and bites you on the arse, a very clever piece of song writing.

Skam – It’s Come to This, is an uncompromising hard rock record with a depth and power to surprise.
