Some Time Today – The Shipping Forecast, Liverpool – 13/04/18

This was a gig I had been looking forward to for a very long time. Lancashire Pop/Punk quartet ‘Some Time Today’ have been on my radar for almost a year after seeing the video for their debut single ‘Another Way’  on You tube. They are heavily influenced by the likes of Green Day and Blink 182, which isn’t really my genre, but there’s something about these guys that makes me believe in them. There’s something special about them. They have the look, the desire, the hunger, and most importantly the music to back it up.

The  Shipping Forecast on Slater Street boasts a great downstairs venue for live music. It’s parallel with The Cavern. Structural posts here and there, brick walls, and cavernous halls. The stage is very low but that just adds to the whole atmosphere and feel that this dark and quite dingy room creates. The lighting is poor, which played havoc with my photographs, but it doesn’t take long to fill the room with people, being as small as it is.

Some Time Today kicked off with EP opener ‘Tinderella’.  There’s nothing better than a band starting a gig with the opening song from their latest release, and it wasn’t long before ‘Another Way’  was with us either. This is a pearler of a track which was the bands first single and video single. You can view it HERE.

The band played a good selection from their debut album ‘Better Late Than Never’, as well as throwing in some well organised covers for good measure. My personal preference on covers…. we all know what that is. My advice to Some Time Today?? Wean yourself slowly off the covers, your music is more than good enough in every way shape or form to take you where you want to go.

One of the highlights of the night was the fantastic Beth Olive joining the band to sing ‘Say What You Say’. A song she sang on the EP with the guys.  It’s a beautiful ballad, and holds some cracking harmonies between herself and Tom. One of the best songs I’ve heard for a very long time.

So, a great performance from Some Time Today. A band I hold high hopes for, and a band with great promise for the future.

I managed to catch an interview with the guys and Beth after the show. You can watch it here.
