Soulsteal are a Doom/Death Metal band from Cyprus that formed over ten years ago. They released their debut EP in 2009, then in 2012 followed this with their debut album. Now three years on, they are releasing their second album, Tenebris.
The songs are fairly short with almost half clocking in at uneder 4 minutes long, and the longest being under 5 minutes. That’s not necessarily a bad thing though – it means that there’s more impact with each song, and it does remove the temptation to pad songs out with unnecessary guitar solos.
The album kicks off with “Focus on your beasts” – a great song to kick off the album. Check it out here and hear for yourself what to expect..
“Darkolepsy” is an unusual track – more like something from a horror movie than a song, it’s a track that breaks up the album nicely and slows things down between heavier tracks.
Another track to be released ahead of the album is “Debris”. It’s not actually one of the best tracks in my opinion, but it’s still good. Check out “Debris” here….
“The answer (unanswered) is a semi-instrumental track. There are some vocals early on, but most of the track is a nice instrumental
It’s not all heavy though – inparticular, the final track “Infraction” is a lovely gentle melodic guitar piece with the sound of waves crashing in the background. A very noticeable change of pace from the rest of the album and a great track to end the album with.
So overall you’ve got plenty of growling vocals, heavy guitars and plenty of power from the drums and bass, but it’s not a case of power at the expense of melody and the album is definitely well worth a listen.
