Stuka Squadron w/support from Scar Divine & Hybris – the Unicorn, Camden – 09.03.12

Friday night in Camden with three fantastic bands on tonight’s bill at the Unicorn, first up we have the brilliant Hybris who are a relatively new thrash outfit consisting of James (vocals) Achilles and Federica (guitars) Liv (Bass) and Dimitris (Drums). You will recognise James as he is also the blood sucking vampire lead vocalist of tonight’s headliners and Dimitris will also grace the stage again as sticksman with the second band of the evening Scar Divine who were founded by Stuka Squadron guitarist Sir Graveghoul Terrossound, anyway Hybris took to the stage and opened up with “Foe or Friend” a song which made up part of their original two-track demo along with their third track tonight “Hypertube”  (you can listen to both tracks by clicking on these two links “Foe or Friend” “Hypertube”) the guys (and girls) stuck in a fabulous cover of Annilhilator’s “Alice In Hell” before finishing off with “Hubris” all in all a very good performance from Hybris and you definitely check them out if you’re a thrash fan.

Full set list: Foe Or Friend, Emperors, Hypertube, Volcano, Insidious, Alice in Hell (cover), Hubris.

Rating: 7/10

Onto our second band this evening with the equally fantastic “Scar Divine” as I mentioned above ”Scar Divine” were founded in 2009 by Stuka Squadron guitarist Sir Graveghoul Terrorsound also known as George “GT”  Stergiou and he’s joined by Constantine (vocals) Dimitris also of Hybris (Drums) Matthew (Guitar) and Fred (Bass). They opened up with “Code Red” a fantastic slab of proper metal, soaring vocals, pounding drums and some very powerful riffs. Third track “Love…What…Love….” And fifth track tonight “Blue” (which is a fantastically aggressive instrumental) can be heard on their reverbnation page by clicking here.

Full set list: Code Red, Eyes Blind, Love…What…Love…., Still out There, Blue, 480 BC War, Neverland.

Rating: 7/10

So and on to the main event and my third time seeing the mighty Stuka Squadron and I had already bumped into the guys earlier in the evening manning their merchandise stand, upon which proudly displayed was a copy of a certain magazine with the initials “MH” in which the boys had a whole page feature which is no less than they deserve! Taking to the stage the guys look like a menacing gang who could only find a German army surplus shop to get their clobber and I must say I don’t know how these guys manage to keep those massive leather trench coats on for so much of the set, anyway they opened up with the excellent “Tales of the Ost” and the crowd was instantly with the guys chanting, singing and head banging away. Churning out the now infamous catalogue of songs including the legendary sing along “We Drink Blood” before we get  given a treat to the first new piece of the Stuka Squadron future song arsenal in the from “Desert Fox”  and my god it’s awesome! Unfortunately no news on when the track will be available in any form but let me just say you have something to look forward to and if you want to hear it earlier get along to one of their shows over the next couple of days! In summary and as always Stuka Squadron pulled out all of the stops with all the bits you expect from one of their shows including the awesome on stage execution of Lord Graham Pyre!

Rating 8.5/10 fangtastic!

Full set list: Tales of The Ost, Into the Breach, Lovecraft,
