Tangerine Dream to make Documentary funded by Kickstarter campaign

Queen’s iconic guitarist Brian May has pledged support to synthesizer pioneers Tangerine Dream in their effort to release a feature-length documentary, following the passing of Edgar Froese in 2015.

May, who recorded the album Sonic Universe with Tangerine Dream in 2011 at Tenerife’s STARMUS Festival, said “I’m grateful I have the opportunity to contribute to this piece on Edgar because truly he was something wonderful, and for me it was something wonderful in my life to have an opportunity to interact with him and create together, and I remember him very fondly.”

Tangerine Dream started the production of their first documentary in 2014; after the sudden passing of founder Froese they decided to turn the short documentary into a full-length feature covering both the band and Edgars’ lifetime work. The impressive story of Tangerine Dream will be reconstructed through several interviews with Edgar Froese’s wife Bianca Froese-Acquaye together with band members, close friends, artists and famous collaborators and will include previously unpublished footage from Edgar’s private archive. It’s homage to the great musician Edgar Froese and the early era of electronic music.

Tangerine Dream have started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the shooting of more footage and the acquisition of early tracks’ licenses. With the help of the crowd – this is YOU – we want to shoot more interviews, obtain more archive material and acquire licenses for the early Tangerine Dream tracks owned by former labels including Virgin and Sony” – the band explains.
