If people who lived during the Middle Ages would have any chance to see and hear those crazy German Tanzwut guys, they would definitely be announced as witches working for hell! But lucky for them, they are not going to face such cruel inquisition, as people seem to enjoy renewed medieval music with heavy rock tones and fancy outfits on the stage. Tanzwut, making all sorts of rock people dance to medieval music since 1998, is now releasing their 8th full-length album, called ‘Eselsmesse‘.

This is essentially bagpipes and drums, an acoustic and danceable set of songs without the inclusion of heavy instruments (as guitars) this time, so it is purely Medieval music album. As the German title of the album ‘Eselsmesse’ suggests (and somehow the creative and evil looking art cover as well), it has something to do with donkeys this time. Oh well, welcome to the Donkey Fair!

The album intro is a real medieval fair atmosphere before ‘Asinum Chorum’ follows up, purely acoustic and without vocals. If you want to sing along in German, the next song ‘Der Eselskönig’ is more suitable for that – a little slower tempo with a quite memorable melody. The album consist of 13 songs overall, including the intro with a great length of 46 minutes. So, dance with ‘Saturnalia’, have some rest with ‘Lux Hodie’, a ballad like song and sing along with ‘Unsere Nacht’, and well, you will feel the Middle Ages breathing just behind you.

Reviewers pick: ‘Saturnalia’ – the 4th track of the album, which is purely instrumental. Three and a half minutes of medieval dance madness in the fest, where you might loose your shoes, breath and mind.

‘Eselsmesse’ by Tanzwut is a beautifully constructed album, including instrumental tracks, both male and female vocals, various tempos songs and is a one nice colourful gem for medieval music lover or anyone, who is keen knowing Tanzwut from the other, acoustic side.

‘Eselsmesse’ by Tanzwut is going to be released on 6th of June via AFM Records.
