Summary:

Overall, an incredible first album that I highly recommend, which kind of makes you want to kick it in the South, drink moonshine... and listen to The Cadillac Three.

Country Rock seems to be receiving a lot more recognition in recent years, and it’s bands like The Cadillac Three who are to thank for the privilege. The Cadillac Three are an American Country / Southern Rock band from Nashville, Tennessee, consisting of Jaren Johnston – lead vocals / guitar, Kelby Ray – bass guitar / Dobro / acoustic guitar / vocals, and Neil Mason – drums / vocals, who appear to be receiving strong recognition after the release of their first album, “Tennessee Mojo”. For me, The Cadillac Three is one of those bands who for whatever reason, I end up missing each time they make it to the UK. For a relatively fresh band, their commitment to British fans has to be praised, and I hope it pays off for them. Last year they toured alongside Aussie-Rockers, The Graveltones, before Heading out on a six-date headline tour in March of this year (with support from Sky Valley Mistress), followed by a set at Download Festival in June. They have a one-off London show scheduled for 9th November, with the promise of more dates to follow in 2016. Many of the album’s tracks meet the assumptions you’d make about a Southern Rock band; with songs paying tribute to whiskey, pick-up trucks, ‘pretty little ladies’ and Southern States (a whole lot of ’em too, it’s pretty impressive!). Through strong riffs and uplifting tracks you could actually party to, the band provide a new gritty twist to the classic Country Rock bands we’re all familiar with. Highlights for me include “Back It Up”, which is just an awesome high-energy feel good tune, and the title track “Tennessee Mojo”, which showcases the gritty vocals and power-driven guitar the band have to offer. It seems you can’t read any article or review on a fresh Southern Rock band without some reference to the mighty Lynyrd Skynyrd, but considering The Cadillac Three paid their own tribute to the greats in ‘Get Your Buzz On’, I feel like it’s fair game. The influence they’ve received from the leaders of Southern Rock is pretty clear to any listener. However, the album still holds a seriously fresh sound that resonates a true, raw rock ‘n’ roll vibe. Overall, an incredible first album that I highly recommend, which kind of makes you want to kick it in the South, drink moonshine… and listen to The Cadillac Three.
