Summary:

The Commoners raise their social status as they release their third studio album called Restless, via Gypsy Soul Records.

The Commoners release Restless, their third studio album on Gypsy Soul Records on Friday, 5th July as the Toronto, Canada based band fire out nine songs with aplomb, covering many musical bases which drew me in after just one listen!

Album opener ‘Shake You Off’ will have you watching out for riffs that buzz around your head like angry bees. It’s a drum heavy pound that nails this fiery rock and roller along on four frenetic minutes of headbanging heaven and a raging solo is one for the air guitarists out there.

A rough as sandpaper vocal for ‘The Way I Am’ has pocketfulls of soul to send this beautiful piece skywards, punctuated by some neat, twin guitar axe attack mania and a gospel tinged outro.

‘Restless’ is a bright, breezy, free and easy ballad with balls that tugs at the heartstrings courtesy of a bonafide vocal that pulls no punches, wearing it’s heart on its sleeve, closing on serene piano.

It’s time to shake your funky stuff for ‘Gone Without Warning’, strutting around your house like Mick Jagger as they blast out this full on shitkicker with wrecking ball power, coming down the gears for sedate choruses.

‘Who Are You’ is a Motorcity Madhouse fuelled freak out that Uncle Ted would be proud of as it’s a surefire party starter and finisher, romping along on steely eyed barroom boogie.

A jarring intro to ‘Body And Soul’ has chords that herald a laid back drum driven doomy song, punctuated by some serious fretboard fury. It’s deranged, truly deranged for eight manic minutes.

Their gospel roots return to light up the sky for ‘See You Again’. A languid vocal, acoustic touches, piano and a snappy snare drum bite, add to the dexterity.

‘Too Soon To Know’ has touches of melancholy that sees them spread their wings to unleash stadium filling choruses.

Album closer ‘All That We Have’ closes this stupendous album on a stripped back vocal that quivers, backed by a gently strummed acoustic, and I didn’t want it to end.
