Oft described as “dark, sexy”, “gothic blues”, American hard rock band The Dead Weather has announced that its third full-length album will be released worldwide in September 2015, through Third Man Records. Titled Dodge & Burn, this effort purports to contain 12 original tracks, including four previously-released tunes (now remixed and remastered): “Open Up (That’s Enough)”, “Rough Detective”, “Buzzkill(er)”, and “It’s Just Too Bad”. Dodge & Burn has been announced so far to be made available in the physical, vinyl format. A digital download release format may be forthcoming; stay tuned to Third Man Records news.
Once per year in 2013 and 2014, The Dead Weather teased fans with exclusive vinyl 7″ releases, through the Third Man Records Vault, a subscription-only, mail-order service that delivers quarterly packages to enrolled members worldwide. Fortunately, the four tunes from 2013-2014 are also available as digital downloads, (although, not on YouTube anymore) so those who do not have turntables can still partake. For collectors and hardcore fans alike, there is a special edition of Dodge & Burn which will be made available to aforementioned subscribers as “Vault Package #25″, including a limited edition colored vinyl LP with special cover art and metallic ink, a limited edition 7” EP from the album, a bonus poster, and a pack of custom playing cards. The special Vault package will be delivered the same week as the album drops for non-subscribers. There is no pre-order available yet for the standard vinyl format.
Unusual in this day and age, Dodge & Burn has been announced as a studio-only effort, as drummer Jack White previously announced that he is taking a sabbatical or hiatus from touring. Other bandmembers Dean Fertita, Jack Lawrence, and Alison Mosshart are said to be “heavily involved in other projects”, further dashing hopes of a tour. Despair not… those other projects are quite fantastic too.
Special thanks to Third Man Records for contributing to this report.
