The Howling – Interview with Blacky and The Rev, 18th October 2013

Having seen The Howling supporting Buckcherry last year I made sure I saw them at Download was pleased that they were added as support on the Volbeat, Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies tour. I caught up with Blacky and The Rev after the gig for a short interview: –

I saw you guys at Download and you were awesome and last year with Buckcherry. About two weeks ago it was announced that you were going to be supporting Volbeat. How did that feel?

Blacky: Amazing. It all came around really quickly. We did out last headline show at The Underworld, which sold out in two weeks and Andy Copping and The Volbeat guys invited us to hop on board at the last minute and add a little bit more support and we were f**king loving it.

You have a new album – what’s it called?

Blacky: Er I can’t let the cat out of the bag just yet on the album title.

The Rev: We have got an album name.

Blacky: It’s based on the story from London, I moved to London from a small town and it’s the story from start to finish of what happened when I got here.

(To The Rev) I know you’re from Morecambe but I don’t know where you’re from Blacky?

B: Dunstable, near Luton

To The Rev – I need to ask one question – I was a massive Towers of London fan and I saw them but you’d left about a week before I first saw them. Is there any possibility of a one-off gig with The Rev and the rest of the band?

Not a cat in hells chance! Never! I’d rather chop my bollocks off!

Thank you very much guys.

Footnote – I think that’s a ‘No’ then! Gutted! :(

About Louise Swift

I first went to a gig in 1981, Gillan at Leeds University. I've been a regular gig goer ever since. I haven't kept count of how many gigs I've been to over the intervening years, but it's a lot! My favourite bands are AC/DC then, in no particular order, Anti-Nowhere League, Slaughter and the Dogs, Towers of London and Dirt Box Disco. I tend to like Glam/Punk and rude offensive lyrics, not sure what that says about me but as Animal would say 'So What!' The question was recently put to me - did I write for any online publications? My reply - No, but I'd like to! Planetmosh was suggested and I found myself offering to review Aces High Festival. Easy peasy I thought! Well not quite, if a jobs worth doing it's worth doing well! I had sixteen bands to research. I found I actually enjoyed that and it kept me too busy to be making lunatic comments on Facebook! ;) Then I felt a bit inadequately qualified. I mean, who am I to comment on others, when my musical expertise extends to being able to play a mean Greensleeves on the recorder and a passable Annie's song on the flute! Haven't picked up either instrument for years! What I do have, however, is over 30 years of experience as a gig goer, so I can comment on what I like and what I don't! It's only my opinion and, if I don't like a band it doesn't mean they are bad, just not to my own liking. I admire anyone who has the guts to get up on that stage and have a go!
