After only a few short months, Arizona’s The Maine are already planning their return to the UK. The American rock five piece was most recently across the pond as a part of their European headlining run which also saw them play the entirety of the Vans Warped Tour Europe/UK. This last trip to the UK was the first since the release of their 2013 full length, Forever Halloween, which was recorded live to tape and produced by Brendan Benson (of The Raconteurs).
Since their time overseas, The Maine has been busier than ever; releasing their first ever all acoustic EP Imaginary Numbers, headlining the 8123 Tour in the Philippines, touring an acoustic run through US and into Canada in support of the release, and announcing the rest of their spring and summer plans for 2014. These plans include not only the trip to the UK in support of Deaf Havana, but also their third ever tour to Brazil, and their second summer long stint on the Vans Warped Tour in the US/Canada.
Fans in the UK will see the band play a fresh set made up of songs from their previous releases in the usual high energy performance people have come to expect of The Maine. As their reputation precedes, The Maine plans to continue as a band accessible to their fans and will be hanging out at the venue each night to meet and greet. This fan engagement plays a large role in bringing the band back to the UK so frequently, and it’s not something they ever overlook. Currently signed with Rude Records in Europe and working independently at home in the US, The Maine are enjoying the freedom that comes without a major label contract; specifically the freedom to tour when they want and release music at their preferred pace. It’s this freedom that enabled the release of Imaginary Numbers, which was self-recorded by the band in their own recording studio. Speaking on the recording process, the band’s drummer Pat Kirch says, “recording this EP was very relaxed and I think it shows in the music. We went and built a studio in a few days and then decided to record some songs! We did all the engineering and recording ourselves so we were able to try whatever we want and really experiment with techniques.”
With their hectic upcoming 2014 schedule, the band is far from putting Forever Halloween on the back burner and are looking forward to performing songs off the latest full length for the second time in the UK on this upcoming run. The tour kicks off with a headlining date in Dublin, and will see them play nearly a month’s worth of shows which include a series of support dates for the UK’s Deaf Havana, and ending with a set at both dates of Hit The Deck festival.
BIO
The Maine is an American rock band from Tempe, Arizona formed in January of 2007. Their first full-length Can’t Stop Won’t Stop was released on July 8th, 2008 to incredible fan reception.
With the momentum of their first release, The Maine dropped Black and White in the summer of 2010. It was instantly clear that what the group had was something special – it was this release that the fans and industry started to see their growth and maturity expand as creative artists and musicians.
When it came time to release their third album in 2011, Pioneer, it was clear that the record needed to be released independently without the input of anyone but the band members themselves. After making the decision to part ways with their major label, The Maine decided to film the experience and released the documentary Anthem For A Dying Breed.
On June 4th of 2013, The Maine released their fourth full-length album, Forever Halloween. The album was recorded live through analog tape without the use of computer editing techniques which have become the standard in modern recordings. This gave the album an energy that cannot be captured any other way than 5 people performing in a room together. “The tape machine was like having an older, wiser, intimidatingly glowing woman in the room” says frontman John O’Callaghan on the experience. “We were all meeting her for the first time, but she already knew everything there was to know about the five of us. In no single way judgmental, but she sniffed out the bullshit and wouldn’t allow us to be anyone we are not. We are now better men for meeting that woman.”
Since the release of their latest full length, the band has self-recorded and released an all acoustic EP and continues their intensive touring schedule worldwide. The Maine is John O’Callaghan, Pat Kirch, Kennedy Brock, Garrett Nickelsen, and Jared Monaco.
