Summary:

The Rebelles are three female singers – Tracie Hunter, Elizabeth Westwood and Phoebe White.  Tracie has already released three solo albums and toured extensively; Elizabeth formed Westworld with Generation X guitarist Bob “Derwood” Andrews; Phoebe has worked with a number of blues musicians and is currently a soloist in the Blues Kitchen Gospel Choir.  Together they’ve worked as backing musicians with the likes of Def Leppard, Steven Tyler, Ginger Wildheart, The Quireboys and Mott the Hoople.

“All the young dudes” is their first single with their debut album expected later this year.  The choice of song makes sense when you look at the family connections of one of the mmbers – Tracie Hunter is the daughter of Mott the Hoople singer Ian Hunter.  In fact Ian Hunter joins The Rebelles on this single with him doing backing vocals while the ladies do the lead vocals.

Ian Hunter isn’t the only guest on the album – they also have James Stevenson (The Cult, Generation X) on guitar and Glen Matlock (Sex Pistols) on Bass.

It’s a very good cover version.  They’ve stuck quite closely to the original rather than going for a totally different style.  Obviously having multiple female singers instead of one male singer means there’s a difference there, but other than the vocals it’s a straight cover of the original.  It’s very good, but I can’t help but feel it’s an unambitious choice that doesn’t fully showcase their vocal talents, but I’m certainly looking forward to hearing the album when that is released to hear how the wider selection of covers show off the vocals.
