Those Who Knew – Interview

UK Alternative Rockers THOSE WHO KNEW introduce themselves, ahead of the release of their new EP ‘New Perspective’, out 28th April.

What is the full band line-up, who plays what?

Danny Graves: Vocals,

Danny Peet: Lead Guitar,

Jordan Toal: Rhythm Guitar,

Joe Miller: Bass Guitar,

Emily Hall: Drums.

How and when did the band form?

It’s actually sites like Join My Band that we have to thank for bringing us together. Emily had been advertising on the sites for a while when she got in contact with Danny Peet and the brain child of “Those Who Knew” was created with the aim to create high energy, alternative rock music. Emily already knew Jordan from a previous band (again, sourced from the Internet!) and the band began with those 3 and 2 other members. After a good start to 2015, the band received a huge blow when their singer announced he was leaving to travel Australia. Fortunately, Emily was keen with Internet advertising yet again where she found quite an amusing advert for a “karaoke singer” who’d never been in a band before. The band decided to take the risk and trial him out. It wasn’t looking great when he turned up to his first rehearsal with a tiny karaoke mic and completely the wrong cable! However, we were all blown away by his voice. So, with a new singer, it gave the perfect opportunity for us to develop our original material, with his strong, unique vocals leading our music to a more melodious place.

What are your musical influences?

Most obviously from listening to us the general sounds we take the biggest influence from are the likes of Paramore, Deaf Havana, Lower than Atlantis to name a few. Individually, we all have slightly differing tastes in music. For example, Danny G takes a lot of influence from Adam Levine and Brendon Urie whereas Emily is inspired by Blink 182’s Travis Barker. Guitar wise, there’s a definite nod to Josh Farro’s days in Paramore.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Using sign language…

We’d probably describe our sound as the link between pop and rock. Depending on the song we usually have the catchy melodies of pop mixed with the solid rhythm sound of heavier music. Having said that, our single ‘Losing Touch’ is definitely more on the pop rock cheesy side of things.
