This EP captures the root sound of Tormenta. “Tormented Souls” defines the first take of Tormenta’s work to bring about new age thrash metal into the world. Ranging from old school heavy thrash to new age brutality, the music has a way to reminisce the feeling of how the songs were and yet offers that vital originality needed to make metal heads bang their heads all night long.
I have to admit I raised an eyebrow when I read the press info saying these guys came from the Maldives (thinking stereotypical tranquil picture postcard view of the Maldives, sorry guys) so I had to click on play to see what they sounded like and I can honestly say these Maldivian’s know how to thrash!!
Straight from the opening chords of ‘Judgement’ we are delivered great sound, speed along with growling guitars, grinding bass and drums. This pace and drive is continued throughout the EP, each track following on superbly from each other to create a powerful aural journey.
All the tracks have a proper old thrash feel to them, think Slayer, old Metallica, Megadeth whilst they have added in their own special vibe and created a quality and fresh sound and feel to them.
After listening to this EP as few times I am looking forward to Tormenta’s new album, once it is ready. The guys are working hard on it at the moment and will be released again via Rock N Growl.
