VADER: Polish death metal classic “De Profundis” gets a new lease of life. Originally released back in 1995, Vader’s classic second album has been remastered, re-issued, and brought roaring into the 21st century. The original CD release had no lyric sheet and a rather basic insert. This has been addressed with a glorious digipack CD and full lyric booklet. Also, and probably the main selling point, for the first time “De Profundis is available on vinyl, on which you can really appreciate the beautiful, and sinister artwork.
On its original release, “De Profundis” was described as the perfect mix of death metal and Slayer. Quite an apt description. The 9 tracks on offer here clock in at 34 minutes of playing time, rightly giving this album another epithet as Vader’s own “Reign In Blood”
For the fans…
If you are a fan of Vader or death metal in general, you probably already own this album in its original form. If not, now is the time to fill the gap awaiting it in your collection. The fact that this is not just a reissue, but a remaster, is where this new life comes from. The original had let’s say a rather “thin” production, but now, you would be hard-pressed to say whether this was an album originally recorded in 1995 or 2021. We now have a full rounded sound that allows each instrument, and the vocals to stand out.
Vader is renowned for its distinctive style – intense drumming, razor-sharp buzzsaw riffs, and Piotr (Peter) Wiwczarek’s unmistakeable gruff bark. On this remaster, you can appreciate all this to the full. Songs like “Blood of Kingu”, and “Sothis” still smash you about the ears, but harder!
In all, this is a fantastic reissue, and well worth buying again, especially on vinyl, as it sounds fantastic. If it’s your first time buying, or your first time getting to know Vader, you cannot go wrong!
