Voidemolition – interview

Exiciting modern metallers VOIDEMOLITION have just dropped their monsterous new single, Sanity. Check out the video for the track, here – https://youtu.be/M8ixOU-6sUg . With the band on the rise, we asked the gusy to introduce themselves:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

The band consists of five members. Dominik (Dom) Wietrzykowski is our drummer, Richard Hetze plays bass and does backing screams, Björn Dröse is our rhythm guitarist, Timo Gerhardt plays the lead guitar and does backing vocals and David (Dave) Dannenberg is the singer with both clean singing and guttural vocals.

How and when did the band form?

Dave: The band was founded in 2015, late summer. Our singer Dave searched for musicians to form a band, posting in different forums. Our drummer Dom reacted to one of the posts. A good friend of Dom was the first lead guitarist. We searched for another guitar and a bass and started doing cover songs of Bullet for my Valentine, Slipknot and Trivium.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

Over the first years the band had a few shifts in line-up. The only foundation members who are left are Dave and Dom. In 2018 we released our first EP called “ARISE” as our official debut. With this step we went from hobby and amateur to semi-professional. This was the point where we solidified as a band and started to know in which direction we are headed.

Who are your musical influences?

This is an interesting question. Our members music taste varies a lot resulting in our special style of music. Dom is more of an old school true metalhead while Richard loves more brutal music from Deathcore to Metalcore. Björn really loves Djent and Hardcore whereas Timo has a more melodic taste just like Dave. So we have influences like Bury Tomorrow, As I lay Dying, Avenged Sevenfold, Jinjer, Trivium, Slipknot, Bullet for my Valentine and more, thus creating a remarkably diverse style. It is hard for us to tell which genre we are assigned to.

Where did the name of the band come from?

We wanted to create a new name, something unique. We really liked the void as a topic and after a bit of brainstorming we got the idea of Void and Demolition. Like we demolish the void by filling it with our music. We fused the two words at the “D” and to make it easier to pronounce we decided that the “E” is silent, just like the “U” in Eluveitie. So yes, this is how our name Voidemolition (spoken void’molition) was created.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

We did not know each other before forming the band. The two of us who know each other for the longest time are Dave and Dom as they founded the band. We got to know Timo as the guitarist of another band but after a while he decided to leave it, so we took the chance and asked him to join us. When our former bass player had to move to another place and was forced to leave the band Richard joined the crew. And when our former rhythm guitarist left the band to focus on studying, we were more than happy to meet Björn who eventually joined us, too. Although we do not know each other since our childhood we evolved a bond that goes beyond just working with each other. The band evolved into a second family.

Where have you played or toured?

For now, we have only toured in Germany, doing underground gigs and smaller festivals. We were honoured to support the Swedish Death Metal band CHUGGER in 2017 and the Symphonic Metal band Dream Ocean in 2018.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

It is a wave of emotions. Heavy riffs where the bass booms and screams convey feelings of aggression, frustration, but also power. Light melodies both played by the lead guitar and sung by the vocals have a melancholic touch, happy and sad at the same time. Our music sounds like a journey. It is a vortex that sucks you in. You can feel the love we spent while creating every song.
