Voodoo Six Interview, Adrenaline Mob Tour.

Lara Kisel catches up with Voodoo Six as they head off on tour with the legendary band Adrenaline Mob. We get the updates of their third album which they have just finished recording, Download insights and how one certain member of Voodoo six has become domestic hmmm interesting….Enjoy!

Lara –  I’m here with Voodoo Six, would you like to introduce yourself to the Planetmosh Readers?

Chris  – HELLO PLANETMOSH READERS!   Is this recording as last time it all got a bit mental.

Lara- Ha-ha what happened last time?

Chris –  No just we can’t be recorded without doing daft things ha-ha.

Lara- Yes the interview last time was around 50 minutes!

Joe- and 49 minutes was complete bollocks

Chris – Well Planetmosh readers I am Chris Jones from the band Voodoo Six. (spoken in a deep tone creepy manner!)

Joe- and I’m Joe Lazarus from the band Voodoo Six.

Lara – So you guys have just come off stage how do you feel?

Joe- Knackered and sweaty!

Chris – Yes and quite elated.

Joe- Yeah we are  really happy with tonight’s performance and reception.

Chris-

Joe- Some people were in wellis and I’m not kidding they were filthy.

Chris- You bloody tart.

Joe- Haha you know I have this way of running across mud like you know on my tiptoes, really quick….

Lara- Like a ballet dancer perhaps

Chris- Haha!

Joe- Ha! Yeah exactly and I rarely ever get more than a centimetre into the mud.

Chris- Ha you skip! You trot through the mud.

Lara- Doesn’t that splash up and getting muddy elsewhere….

Joe- Erm for people behind me yeah ha-ha

Chris- We have twinkle toes over here.

Lara- So back onto the Download performance, how was the reaction from the crowd?

Joe- It was great!

Chris- Yeah we were out on the Red Bull stage, so you know one of the smaller stages but you know it was really really rammed in there. We only made it there by the skin of our teeth didn’t we… they had problems with all the mud and the cars trying to get in out of the car parks, it was all really slow and congested up because of that.

Joe- All the junctions were being shut one by one… we could of ended up in Scotland by that rat.

Chris- It took us 7-8 hours to get to Derby  from London. The last half an hour took forever.

Joe- It was awful.

Chris- We were suppose to go on at six thirty that was our stage time but because of all the problems they were having, they delayed the stage times for everybody for about an hour  but just as well because we didn’t all get on site at the same time in the same place until six thirty so if that stage time had been the original stage time we would of never of played. We just literally arrived…

Joe- Shuttle straight to the stage set up and play…

Chris- Space Shuttle yeah…

Joe- Yeah so it was indifferent…

Lara- It was an experience….

Joe- Despite the fact we were all rushing around and a bit sort of manic and stressful, we still sort of nailed the show really.

Chris- It’s always like that at festivals, because it’s a festival everything has to be done in a slot of about twenty minutes. Loaded on to the stage, plugged in, line checked, dressed and your ready to go. Then you got to do the reverse of that at the end get everything out of there, clear your stuff out the way really quickly…

Lara- It’s not glamorous in the slightest ha-ha.

Chris- Ha-ha it’s not, we are quite good a that sort of stuff, we all cope under pressure well. I suppose that’s why we get good support slots. We do the job.

Lara- Did you manage to relax and enjoy the whole weekend?

Joe- Yeah we did, I’m good friends with the Biffy Clyro guys, so it was good to see them, managed to watch them from the side of the stage that was awesome.

Chris- There was lots of guys from bands and press so we hung out a lot on the V.I.P area a lot on the Friday night and the Sunday night. We wandered off too to check out other bands and stuff as well.

Joe – Yeah best band of the week for me was refused. They were so fucking awesome so glad I managed to see them.

Lara- Did you manage to see Chase n Status, who played after Machine Head?

Joe- No I thought I would hear gun shots ha-ha

Lara- Yeah I can’t imagine them going down so well.

Joe- No I didn’t really hear anything…

Chris- I don’t know who Chase n Status are….

Lara- They are like a dubstep, dance sort of band I don’t really want to say what genre they are just in case I completely get it wrong.

Joe- Was that on the Friday? Sorry yeah wasn’t The Prodigy playing as well?

Lara- Yes they were but they aren’t anywhere near what Chase n Status are…

Joe- Oh no I know…

Chris- I don’t know them so I can’t really comment but the festival as a whole seems to be getting a lot more diverse towards in what they put on, which is fair enough, it’s a big festival, there’s a lot of people there.
Joe- To be fair The Prodigy had a lot of people there to see them.

Lara- Yeah…well the whole weekend sold out didn’t it….

Chris- Yeah for no Sonisphere…so yeah it was a good one, we got to see Metallica, saw Black Sabbath, a bit of Sound Garden.

Joe- I decided to not watch Sabbath as Bill Ward wasn’t playing and you can’t be Black Sabbath without Bill Ward. I couldn’t watch it, I didn’t feel right. I think the drummer that played should be embarrassed, I think.

Lara- Ahh interesting….

Chris- Controversial.

Joe- You can’t have a Black Sabbath reunion without Bill Ward, If I was the drummer I would be like this ain’t right. This is not right so… That is my opinion.

Chris- Ahh okay what of you did play drums?

Joe- I’ll do it….ha-ha

Lara- Ha-ha!

Chris- Ha-ha Hippocratic much!

Lara- Your funny ha-ha…So what other festivals will you be performing at this year?

Joe-We are playing a French festival this year aren’t we, with The Answers in November…no sorry September. That’s it really for festivals this year. Actually there was possibility of us playing Waken.

Chris- I don’t think it’s going to happen but you know you always get a whiff of things don’t you…

Joe- Like we were added to Download 2-3 weeks before hand, we were one of the last bands added because one of the bands pulled out and then we were which was very kind, offered the slot.

Lara- Will you be attending any festivals this year socially?  Bloodstock perhaps?

Joe- Erm yeah when is Bloodstock this year?
Lara- 13th maybe august…
Chris- What go check it out…I would like to, oh wait August the 13th no way can’t, I will be getting my new kitchen fitted.

Lara- Oh you getting a new kitchen fitted….Look at you, How Rock and Roll are you? Domestic or what!

Chris- Yeah! I’m getting a new kitchen fitted in, that is really exciting. Went to Homebase and BNQ

Lara- Voodoo Six gone domestic what’s happen ha-ha.

Chris- I know. Been down to look at kitchen sinks, integrated fridge/freezers…

Lara- Wow…so your last interview was about knives and weapons, and catching these falling knives and now it’s about kitchens…I like it!

Joe – Actually! One of our new songs is actually going to be the theme song for that DIY programme, what’s it called.

Lara- I haven’t got a clue what your talking about ha-ha.

Chris- A DIY programme that shows doing up your kitchen makeovers tune and stuff, that theme tune. We are going to do a song about.

Joe- I’m going to make my own drum kit out of pots and pans ha-ha!

Lara- Okay sounds interesting ha-ha…

Joe- Yeah it’s going to be awesome.

Lara- Ha, okay so moving from that to your third album your going to start recording…

Joe- We have already recorded it.

Lara- Oh wow that was quick.

Joe- Yeah we did it very quickly indeed. It has literally just been finished.

Chris- This is how good we are.

Joe- We got it all done within a week or so, the drums all done in a day and the guitar a day each and the bass, it was pretty quick.

Chris- We know our stuff, we bang them out, we….

Lara- Straight to the point.

Joe- It is going to be mastered soon I’m guessing so.

Lara- hen are you looking to release this album?

Chris- Well it all depends on what deal we can get to release it. Who we can release it to.

Joe- There’s a couple of labels sniffing around.

Chris- We do, we did have a good lead with Roadrunner but unfortunately that’s completely blown out of the water, obviously when the closed shop earlier.

Lara- So what themes are integrated on this album?

Chris- Guns! Guns and weaponry. If you go through Luke’s songs, there’s always a reference to like a weapon in it.

Joe- It’s not a weapon, it’s a spear .

Chris- A spear yeah.

Joe- He will sit right here. (refers to a corner sit in the band’s van). In this very sit, on the way to a gig and he will read Zulu Rising book and as you can see spears everywhere. He’s a big weaponry fan.

Chris- It’s true, once we went to Plymouth and he disappeared, he came back and it was like what’s that your carrying there Luke, he had this long thing that was wrapped up in white packaging and he said “It’s a spear.”…what… “It’s a spear.”, he found a shop that sold spears and just brought a spear haha.

Lara – Hahaha interesting, well thank you for your time guys, it has been a pleasure, Look forward to your new album!

About Del Preston

So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o'clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn't go on stage that night. So, Jeff Beck pops his head 'round the door, and mentions there's a little sweet shop on the edge of town. So - we go. And - it's closed. So there's me and Keith Moon and David Crosby, breaking into that little sweet shop, eh. Well, instead of a guard dog, they've got this bloody great big Bengal tiger. I managed to take out the tiger with a can of mace, but the shop owner and his son, that's a different story altogether. I had to beat them to death with their own shoes. Nasty business really. But sure enough, I got the M&Ms and Ozzy went on stage and did a great show.
