White flame – Cougar

white flame - cougarFinnish band White Flame formed in 2002, and ‘Cougar’ is their third album.  Musically they are rock – some hard rock elements, and some more melodic.  Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Reckless love, Gotthard and The Electric boys are all bands whose names spring to mind while listening to this album – this is seriously good stuff.

Brief comments on a few tracks

Title track ‘Cougar’ definitely has an Aerosmith sound, particularly in the vocals.  It’s a great track.

‘The look’ is a cover of the Roxette hit.  They’ve done a great job with this cover and I can see it getting them a load of new fans.

‘Used to be a girl’ has to be a perfect example of how NOT to name a song.  Looking at the title you’d think one of the band is telling us he had a sex change, but when you read the lyrics, you see the line ‘There used to be a girl like you’, and can see the title has just taken part of the line badly out of context.  Definitely a song in need of a better name as it’s another very good song.

An excellent album – highly recommended.
