Summary:

Astonishing! Truly astonishing! Until I heard this song, I'd never realised how powerful the blues is.

Thud! That noise is my jaw hitting the floor after the first of many playbacks of ‘Blues Is Still Alive’, the first single off the album of the same name, due for release on February 25th 2025 from harmonica virtuoso Will Wilde, via Vizz Tone Records. The single features a cameo spot with blues legend Walter Trout. Will adds about the album,”I think it’s my finest work to date. When I set out to write these songs, I wanted to create an album of straight up blues material, but with the same intensity you would find on a Walter Trout or Gary Moore blues album, and I think we’ve achieved that”.

Walter adds, “It was my great honour to be part of this music with the incredible Will Wilde. He’s the best! I look forward to hopefully more musical collabortion with this amazing young musician.”

My take on the song is that it opens with a soul drenched lead vocal from Will in the first half, easing back to let Walter fire out a guitar solo of precisely picked notes from the neck of his Fender Stratocaster until all Hell breaks loose when a harmonica piece from Will is not of this World! As if this isn’t insane enough, the last minute is like a musical Mexican standoff between Walter and Will.
