Winter’s Verge – ‘Beyond Vengeance’ cd.

Cyprus may not have a massive Metal scene but Winter’s Verge are as good as it gets in the Melodic Power Metal genre. ‘Beyond Vengeance’ marks the bands third and without doubt most impressive release to date .
Not far short of an hours worth of thundering, technically complex and faultless Power Metal that you would be hard pushed to find the better of anywhere around at the moment.
Very much in the Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius camp (the band having toured with the latter in 2010) but with a much more accessible and dare I say it commercial sound this album scores on so many levels. Tracks such as ’Not Without A Fight’ and ’Bleeding Heart’ for example could quite easily storm the radio charts as singles, whilst ’Dying’ has one of the best head banging riffs going, giving an excellent balance of aggression and melody even reminding me of Pantera in places. ‘One Last Night’ slows the pace down with it’s acoustic and Symphonic elements, demonstrating how versatile the band can be in switching the musical mood.
The guitar work of the wonderfully named Harry Pari can not be faulted and deserves much credit, providing the perfect engine room for the band and the vocals of George Charalambous to produce an excellent album which should easily take them to a much higher level.
Pass this one by and you make a big mistake, out now on Massacre Records.
