Wird – Interview

UK grunge rockers WIRD are flying high. The band have just released their stunning new video and single, Lies. Watch the video, here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35FSOIAPiPM . With all of this in mind, we spoke to the band to find out more:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

The full band line-up for most of the time consisted of four people although currently the band came back to its original three-piece approach. Zin being on Vocals and Rhythm/Lead guitar, Austin on Drums, Kotaro on Bass guitar and Matt helped the band to record the Lead guitar.

How and when did the band form? Tell us anything interesting about your hometown.

The band started with the project named Bronchus during the pandemic in 2020 started by Zin and later that year it turned into the band called WIRD. Since then, the band had seen their bass player change three times and their drummer once in the year 2022 for it to arrive to its current line-up today. The main thing that made the band form was a genuine love for grunge music, wanting to bring grunge music to its former glory with modern alternative elements to it. WIRD was formed in London where it is currently based as well. However, the band’s front man and founder Zin originally is from small town in Lithuania called Druskininkai. It’s a world-renowned health spa resort famous of its natural spring waters.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

The band really started solidifying during the recording of the single Clown in early 2023. After recording in the professional studios and making of the music video clip for Clown we started to feel a deeper musical connection and communication between us.

Who are your musical influences?

Our main musical influences arise from 90’s alt rock and grunge music. Bands like Soundgarden, Nirvana, Placebo, Filter and many more.

Where did the name of the band come from?

The band’s name came from us trying to describe our music in one word and the best name we thought it would be Weird. Unfortunately, the name Weird was already taken so we wrote it in an urban slang as WIRD still meaning Weird.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We believe we are different in the way that we are taking a very raw and unpolished approach to our sound and performance where we are not trying to hide any imperfections in our playing. We try to use minimal effects in our songs to express the real and fragile nature of our music. And we try to stay away from playing cover songs.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

We would describe it as heavy passionate real and from the heart.
