About the bands
Wodensthrone were formed in Sunderland in 2005 with the goal of creating stirring heathen black metal in the grand tradition of greats such as Enslaved, Moonsorrow and Primordial; a revitalising force capable of beautifully formed progressive flourishes, devastating power and unforgettable gilded melody, a sound perfectly formed to address meaningful, thought-provoking themes with passion and dexterity. While a number of lineup changes have shaped the band’s maturation over the years, their commitment and dedication to this mission has never faltered.
Now, as Spring takes hold of a troubled world in 2012, Wodensthrone return with “Curse”, an album that transcends the impermanence of individual nations and cultures to address timeless, universal questions of spirituality and freedom. “Curse” explores mankind’s most inherent and profound spiritual flaw; the instinct to lay the responsibility of our fates at the feet of imagined Gods, to submit without question to the cultural machinery – religious, political, social, economical – that imposes systems of power and control to exploit, enthral, corrupt and oppress. The result is a tumultuous, dynamic album rich in tension, conflict and a grandeur verging on the terrifying.

The year is 1891. The members of the Gentleman’s Club of A Forest Of Stars, an exclusive brotherhood of English Victorians, consider themselves to be exponents of their glorious and pompous, at times decadent era characterized by extreme opposites. A Forest Of Stars channel the experiences gained from their numerous meetings hazed by opium and absinthe, occult rites and séances in the form of a previously unheard-of ghostly and hypnotic music, filled with the spirit of the glorious Victorian Age – a harrowing testimony of their many spiritual and sensual excesses.

Haar was formed in 2008 with the ambition to create challenging and idiosyncratic black metal. Their sound is defined by a generous measure of dissonance, a progressive approach to songwriting and a palette of sounds that includes death and doom metal influences. Lyrical subject matter is typically rooted in a study of Ontology and human nature. For fans of post-black and ambient metal.

Maelstrom is six men from across Scotland who have a penchant for shirts and ties and like playing black metal. Or doom metal. Or whatever subgenre you want to stick the band under. With hints and blends of progressive and ambient symphonic black metal taking influences from Emperor and more, Maelstrom are an force to be reckoned with.
