Wretched Soul, pre-Bloodstock festival interview

Wretched Soul is set to wreck the New Blood Stage on Saturday 11th at this year’s Bloodstock.

We catch up with the band to find out more about them, the festival and what you lucky Bloodstock go-er’s will see!

Can you give the readers a quick introduction to the band?

Wretched Soul was formed by myself, Steve Clifford (guitar) and my brother Andy (drums) in late 2008, with the addition of Luke Mayell (bass) in 2010 and Chris Simmons (vocals) in 2011.

The band has a traditional yet modern sound blending elements of Thrash, Black and Death Metal with NWOBHM sensibilities. Our music is informed by a veritable melting-pot of influences from all areas of Metal; Megadeth, King Diamond, Solistice, Iron Maiden and Emperor are just some of the many artists that we look to for inspiration. We have just finished recording our debut album produced by Chris Tsangarides (Judas Priest, King Diamond, Exodus) which is due for release in early 2013 via Dark Lord Records.

Have you ever been to Bloodstock before? If so when and what did you enjoy most about it?

We’ve all attended Bloodstock in previous years. However, last year was the first time that we all went together as a band. Speaking for myself I think I most enjoyed the overall ethos of the Festival, it has an amazing atmosphere and feels like a massive party amongst a small tightly-knit community of Metalheads.

Why did you want to become part of the New Blood Stage line up?

Because the bands on the New Blood Stage literally embody the future of British –and for that matter, European– Metal, so it’s an honour to be featured amongst the very best new Metal bands that this country has to offer. I also know that it’s the “go to” place for many folks who want to discover new music.

What was your initial reaction when you found out you where playing on the New Blood Stage?

Honestly, my initial reaction was an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment just to have been asked. A lot of hard work went into earning our spot at Bloodstock and we relish the opportunity to work even harder and achieve even more in the future.

What is your opinion of the Bloodstock lineup?

I think it’s arguably even better than last year’s and that’s saying a lot, because last year was amazing. Every sub-genre is well represented so there should be plenty for everyone.

What are you looking forward to most at Bloodstock?

Aside from the obvious answers of “playing our set” and “watching the other bands” I hear that there are fifty or so cask ales in the artist bar, so I look forward to sampling as many of those as I can!

Seriously though, the band are looking forward to making many new friends and fans over the course of the Festival.

What can the audience expect from you at the festival?

They can expect Wretched Soul to deliver a SHOW of neck-wreckingly intense proportions! Bring spare underpants…and a neck-brace!

Can you sum up Bloodstock in one sentence?

Bloodstock Open Air is the most fun that any discerning Metal fan can hope to have with their clothes on!

Any message you wish to pass on to the PM readers.
