God Damn Brewery – M2TM Glasgow finalist – Interview

The Metal 2 The Masses Glasgow final takes place on May 27th and we’ve been catching up with the finalists to get their take on the competition, the final, and what playing at Bloodstock would mean to them.  In this interview we hear from God Damn Brewery.

Congrats on getting to the final guys. Can you explain the feeling when you heard your name announced at the semi final?

Cheers. We were all pretty chuffed with getting through. We were all planning to come through & watch the final even if we weren’t in it so it was braw finding out we’d be one of the bands on the bill too.

Speaking of the final. How have preparations been going?

Preparations wise we’ve got the set down so we’re just hammering through that just now at practices so we can get onstage & enjoy ourselves & get the crowd going.

This year, how has the whole Metal 2 The Masses experience been?

It’s been great fun this year. Glasgow’s always been great for live gigs & the Metal 2 The Masses shows are always fun to be a part of whether you’re playing them or getting along for a few beers & a night of heavy metal. The atmosphere is always good at these shows. Getting to play for the chance to be put on at Bloodstock is great for the bands too. All of us in BREWERY grew up going to festivals as fans like a lot of other people did and having a go at getting a slot ourselves & possibly going full circle & getting to play at a festival in our own band is a really good feeling.

What would you say to bands thinking about applying for next year’s competition?

Go for it. Get some gigs under your belt so you’re confident on stage & apply. You’ve got nothing to lose & everything to gain from this experience. Hell if we don’t win this year we’ll be joining your band next year too cause we’ll just get back in the saddle for another go & see if they’ll have us again!

Has there been a memorable moment that stands out in your mind at the shows to date?

No one thing stands out, getting to play live is always great fun & with BREWERY we’re just wanting to go onstage & get folk in the mood to drink & party with us all night. If we look out from the stage & see people clinking their beers & having a blast then we’ve done ourselves proud.

Personally, I feel that everyone in the final is a winner but if you were to be chosen to represent Scotland at Bloodstock, what would it mean to your band?

Winning would be great. We’re all already going to Bloodstock as fans so to be packing our band gear and heading down the road to play a set as well would be a pretty surreal & amazing experience. That would be some show & some afterparty if we got to play it!

If you could pick one song from your arsenal to let the uninitiated hear what your band is all about, what would it be?

Probably ‘Bar Brawl Texacano,’ it’s got a hell of a groovy stomp to it & it always brings down the house when we finish a set with it.

In 5 words, describe what we can expect from you at the final.

Five words; God Damn Loud Bevy Metal!
