Beholder, Ivory Blacks, Glasgow 9th March 2012

Beholder are currently touring around the UK with The Black Flag Tour. Instead of having a touring support act, Beholder have done things differently, all the supports act are local and different per gig. On tonight’s bill we had Diementia, Kahbela as Zombie Militia had to cancel at the last minute, 15 Times Dead then the mighty Beholder.

Due to the interviews I missed the majority of Kahbela set so unfortunately I can’t do a proper review of their set.

Diementia starts off tonight’s gig in great style with ‘Thoughts of Revenge’ then ‘Bad Blood’. They have had a recent line up change and the band have gelled well together to produce a darker denser style and sound!  Duncan’s growls combined with driving drums, roaring riffs and bassline they are a determined force! ‘Annihilation’ and ‘Ravaged by Fire’ continue on in the same destructive style. The guys finish up with ‘Uncover the Truth’ which rounds off their set off perfectly.  I’m looking forward to hearing their new EP once they have it ready.

Tonight’s 15 Times Dead gig is a poignant one as its Scotti’s farewell gig. It seems like an end of an era, knowing this is officially Scotti’s  last gig with The Dead, whoever takes over Scotti’s role in the band has big shoes to fill!

The guys start the set off with a firm fan favourite ‘Driven By Hate’ which is sung by Scotti, the guys are on superb form and are giving us their all on stage. Andy takes over on vocals and they launch into ‘No Friend of Mine’ ‘Pray’ then ‘Deception’. Their onstage antics and facial expression are great to watch and there is never a dull moment onstage. They look like they are having a fantastic time up on stage.

Their softer style track ‘Dying’ was next and all the fans were singing along to it. One of my favourite new songs ‘I’ by the guys took it’s turn next, its old school style riffs and heavier beat, sounded spectacular tonight.

After a short farewell speech from Scotti and keeping to tradition they finish up with ‘Bullethead’ sung by Scotti who is definitely making us ‘Feel The Girth’ ;) by blasting this song out at us combined with the crowd singing along, it’s a fantastic end to a power packed set.

Tonight has been one of the best I’ve seen them play and I’ve seen The Dead a fair few times! I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing how the new era of 15 Times Dead shapes up as well as looking forward to their debut album that is due out over the next few months.

Beholder kicks off their set with ‘Toxic Nation’ and ‘The Heretic’ are lapped up by the crowd. The guys are on top form tonight and are here to conquer Glasgow yet again! Two new songs are up next ‘Worm’ and ‘Black Flag’ then back to an old favourite ‘Snake Eyes’.

The guys from Beholder seem to be in a party mood tonight and are having a great time on stage as well as having a laugh interacting with the crowd. Simon Hall was busy feeding the other bands members Buckie(Buckfast tonic wine) while they played along with a few of the crowd at the front.

Hearing some more new songs ‘Splinter’ and ‘Morphine Serenity’  highlight how versatile the band are, meaningful lyrics sung with powerful vocals, roaring riffs, ballsy bass lines and the all important Beholder groove. They also fit in comfortably with the old favourites ‘Never Take Us Down’ a tribute to Sophie Lancaster and the awesome ‘The Awakening’, before they closed the set with ‘Footprint in Sand’.

Beholder never fails to deliver a blistering set and they didn’t fail their fans tonight!
