UK Alt-rockers release a new single, Blah on 9th April. We talked to the band about their background and more…..
What is the full band line-up, who plays what?
So we’re a typical 5 piece band; drums bass, two guitars and a singer. We’ve got Shannon ‘Shiney’ Lingwood on front man duties, Alex Hudson and Daniel Burridge on Guitars, Conor Burridge on Drums, and James Yeaman on Bass
How and when did the band form? Tell us anything interesting about your hometown.
The current line up got together in the spring of 2015. Dan and Shiney had been informed that old members were leaving due to personal reasons; and the two were keen to keep the band going with members who were as committed them to a serious music project but also members who were up for a laugh.
Alex auditioned after seeing the advert on an online forum, and after being let down at the last minute a few weeks before a gig, Alex roped James in, after much persuasion, to play bass.
After a few auditions and unnatural fits, Dan’s brother Conor came for a try out and something clicked instantly. The next week he joined the boys at a gig in Manchester and the week after came in the studio to record the Battlecry EP.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
Under the current line up its been a really natural progression. The chemistry between the five of us is great, we all believe in the music we make, and have become really good friends away from the music. But the real key for us is regularly playing music together even if its just jamming in a rehearsal space or writing or recording demo’s at Dan’s house.
Who are your musical influences?
As band we all come from very different musical backgrounds and all have our own unique range if influences.
We generally all find common ground with the likes of Don Broco, Lower than Atlantis & Periphery.
Where did the name of band come from?
Shiney wanted something 3 Syllables that could be chanted by a crowd ( DEAD-SET-DREAM)
How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend? are you friends from school or any family relations?
So we’ve got the Burridge brothers in the band, so they go way back. Alex and James used to work together at a record label, and Shiney is the odd one out really, didn’t really know anyone before the band. Shiney did used to catch the same to work as Alex before he joined, and they actually bumped into each other on the morning of Alex’s audition.
In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?
We like to have fun! We see a lot of bands that have that ‘indie band attitude’ – it gets really boring to watch when you’re at a live gig. Our passion oozes out when we are on stage, it’s where we are most at home.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
Big, wall of sound, bang your head guitar riffs; contrasted with spacious simple hooks and rounded off with an Anthemic sing a long chorus.
Do you have a tour on the horizon?
