Lancashire based five piece Massive Wagons recently recorded their second album at Axis Studios. After their début album Fire It Up here comes Fight the System to be released worldwide on 14th July 2014.
Might as well start with the title track, Fight The System. Those who already have Fire It Up will have heard this before, as it’s also on that album. Why? You may ask, well although the same song it’s been reworked with a stronger bass line in both guitar and drum beat. With added riffs it really packs a punch and gets your feet tapping, heads shaking and fists pumping. Definitely the right choice for the album title.
Back to the beginning. The opening track Dirty Little Secrets reminded me of Deep Purple, say Highway Star and I was also picking up Guns N’ Roses, Garden of Eden style riffs. A great one for the car stereo, getting your foot down to, and doing a ton! Er …. make that seventy!
Rising Tides another fast one with a good, fast drum beat and fast riffs had elements of Led Zeppelin’s Rock ‘n’ Roll. Black Witch had more of Jethro Tull feel. I have to mention Red Dress as, they said at one gig that, this song was written after singer Baz’s Lola moment (or so someone said!). Whether he made it as far as a Crying Game discovery I’ve never been able to find out. Great track with some fantastic riffs.
Look Around and Roll With the Rhythm are great rock ‘n’ roll ballads. The Truth starts off that way then boom it picks up tempo and beat to a turbo charged end. With SWT and Mother, both classic rock tracks. There’s something for everyone! The last track Alive reminded me of some of the great Black Sabbath tracks. A hybrid of Iron Man and War Pigs! Iron Pigs? There is mention of a track Blood Rain as a bonus track but I haven’t got that one. I’ll have to wait until the album comes out.
Massive Wagons tour hard and I have had the pleasure of seeing them many times. They played Hard Rock Hell in 2012 and 2013 and have several gigs and appearances at Festwich, Bloodstock and Aces High lined up in 2014. See poster for all forthcoming live shows.
With an album of this quality these guys should be MASSIVE!
