The year of 2014 is definitely very productive for so many metal bands – so many to choose from picking up the best ones of the year. After the first couple of times listening to the brand new full-length album from the Revocation camp, I realized that this one most certainly will go to the same bill. American technical death metallers are presenting their fifth studio album “Deathless” due the mid of October.
“Deathless” is set of ten polished and solid built technical death metal tracks of the quite standard total length of almost 49 minutes. The album starts without any intro – straight from the start it’s heavy riffs and brilliant guitar parts – “A Debt Owed to the Grave”. No doubt why this storm of recognizable Revocation sound riffs stand in the very beginning – great opening for the rest of the material, which is floating so nicely one after another that one might lose track of time while listening to it. The second, album title track “Deathless” gives even more energy and destructive power, filled with both growly and clean vocals, which add such a vibrant sound to the material, on the top of that – tasty chorus. The overall album has the significant sound, reasonable amount of guitar solos (which is not so common for so many technical/progressive death metal teams), varied vocals, great track structures.
As the band lead guitarist and vocalist David Davidson states, everybody in the band is in the top form, which explains this technically polished tracks quality and strong, vibrant sound, steadily keeping one’s attention.
Reviewers pick: the thing with these kind of albums is that it is unbearably hard to pick one track to put it in the front of the others. Which, actually, means how well constructed the whole set is – take one part away and something definitely will be missing. So the reviewer this time is totally and brutally torn between catchy “A Debt Owed to the Grave”, vibrant “Deathless” and destructive “Madness Opus”. Let’s just say these three could stand in the very top. Each for the different reasons.
“Deathless” by technical death metallers Revocation is something that might blow your mind, hypnotize you and lock in between guitar riffs, keeping you in a thunderstorm of top quality tracks. Suits for pretty much everyone, who is hungry for a tasty and crunchy technical death metal.
