Headline Maniac is a new project from three members of Eddie and the Hot Rods – Ian ‘Dipster’ Dean, Chris Taylor and Simon Bowley. They actually put the power trio together as the opening act on the Eddie and the Hot Rods 40th anniversary shows, and after getting a good reception from the crowd decided to take things further and do more gigs and record this album.
The album kicks off with “Idiot me”, a song which reminds me of much of Michael Monroe’s work. It’s a nice fast paced song with a bit of a pop-punk influence, and gets the album off to a good start. Check out the video at the end of this review and hear it for yourself
“Give me one more chance” gives Chris Taylor a chance to shine with a nice guitar solo.
“You’re the one for me” opens with a section clearly inspired by Jimi Hendrix classic “Foxy lady”. It’s another great rock song.
Being a power trio then you hear every instrument clearly in the mix and get to appreciate the performances of the three band members individually as well as enjoying the combined sound.
It’s a great album, packed with very good rock and roll songs, all of which are very catchy and thoroughly enjoyable. This isnt an album aimed at fans of Eddie and the Hot Rods although they’re sure to like it – this is an album aimed at a much wider audience. It’s an album Id definitely recommend checking out.
