Archives – Interview

Rising UK metallers ARCHIVES have now dropped their enthralling debut album, Decay. The beefy quintet have already received enthusiastic support from Kerrang Radio, Powerplay Magazine, and Kerrang! Magazine. With that in mind, we got to know the guys…..

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Adam Holland – Vocals

Stewart Ferguson – Lead Guitar/Clean Vocals

Samuel Irwin – Rhythm Guitar

Daryl Montgomery – Drums

How and when did the band form?

The band formed in July 2020. The Four members come from previous projects, working together for over 10 years and have a great friendship.  We originate from Larne and Belfast in Northern Ireland.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

After practising extensively for 3 to 4 months, Covid Lockdown prevented the band from practising further. We came to the decision early December that we would invest all our time preparing our debut album.

Who are your musical influences?

The band biggest influences would be Architects and earlier Parkway Drive. Other influences would be August Burns Red, Fightstar, Killswitch Engage, Bring Me the Horizon, Oceans  Ate Alaska, Varials, Polaris, and Knocked Loose.

Where did the name of the band come from?

The band had been searching for a name, and in looking for a previous instrumental recording with our producer, he told us that he would have to look through his ‘Archives’. We joked for a bit that night on Archives as the name and it stuck.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

Stewart, Daryl and Sal started their first project Eyes See Blind back in 2011, Adam was playing bass and vocals for a project called All the Kings Ashes. Both bands originated from the Larne and Belfast areas and toured throughout Northern and Southern Ireland. The projects finished around 2016.

All 4 of us then decided after our groups fizzled out, we would start a new project called ‘Minimalist’. The band recorded an EP and played some gigs but never took off with the singer at the time in 2019. 2020 the same 4 members decided to put our efforts together for our best and most professional project to date ‘Archives’.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We think our band has influence from various styles and we have taken that to create our own distinctive style. As much as the band has a metalcore influence we believe the band caters for all ears through the catchy hooks and leads within our music.

If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?

Melodic and uplifting while at the same time so brutal. This music is so energetic, you won’t be able to sit on your seat!
