Crucified Barbara – Boston music rooms, London – 12th October 2014

junkstarsJunkstars were first up, a young Swedish band. They got a slightly mixed reception – while quite a large percentage of the crowd clearly enjoyed their set, it was noticeable that there were others who weren’t keen, possibly because of the punk edge to their rock music.  I personally enjoyed their set and was definitely glad to have got down to the venue early enough to give them a listen.

superchargerDanish band Supercharger were up next.  The Copenhagen based band were last in the UK in May, supporting Swedish band H.E.A.T (They do seem to like supporting Swedes).  Having seen and enjoyed their set in May, I was looking forward to seeing them again tonight, and they certainly didn’t disappoint.
It’s a great set from them with songs such as “Supercharger” going down well, and they ended with a really strong song – Hell Motel, for which they got the crowd to join in.  They definitely went down much better with the crowd than Junkstars did.

crucified barbaraCrucified Barbara took to the stage to loud cheers and very quickly proved why hey were tonight’s headliners  – these ladies really know how to rock.  It’s a full on high energy rock and roll show with the band regularly head banging as they play.  Tonight’s set kicks off with “In the red”, the title track of their new album, and unsurprisingly tonight’s set includes several songs from the new album – six to be precise.  It’s noticeable that the new songs go down just as well as if not better than the old classics such as “Sex action”, which shows the strength of the album.
Its a nonstop energetic performance as they power through the songs with short  bits of crowd interaction between songs, and the energy levels don’t drop at all till the end of their set.  After a short break they’re back on stage for the encore, which kicks off quite slowly and gently with “My heart is black” but the energy and volume levels quickly rise and they’re back to full power again.  “Into the fire” brings the night to an end.
What a great gig – Junkstars were good, Supercharger were excellent, and Crucified Barbara were simply unbeatable.
