Dan Reed Network – 100 club, London – 15th June 2016

The opening act tonight is Scottish band The King Lot.  Sometimes they play a full electric set, but tonight they’re doing an acoustic set.  A three-piece, you have two guitarists and a drummer (tonight playing a cajon).  All three of them also do vocals, and when the three of them do vocals together the vocal melodies are beautiful.  It’s a really good set and I enjoyed it, but really though tonight was all about tonight’s headliner, Dan Reed Network.

The last time I saw Dan Reed Network was at Download festival, and while I enjoyed their set they didn’t really blow me away.  Tonight though was very different – tonight they were in their element.  The 100 club was busy and hot as hell, and from the moment they stepped foot on stage they were on fire.  The whole band had huge grins on their faces – this isn’t a band that enjoys what they do – this is a band that LOVES what they do.  In this small club their energy and enthusiasm is infectious – it’s not possible to be in the crowd and not be blown away by the band’s performance.  With this being the CD release tour then it’s no surprise that most of the songs on the new album get an airing tonight.  What is a surprise though is that while I really like the new album, hearing the songs took them to a whole new level – this is a band that sounds good on CD but sounds amazing live.

Dan Reed Network will be back in 2017 and based on tonight’s performance then that will be a tour not to be missed.
