Deadfire – Interview

Rowdy rockers DEADFIRE (https://www.facebook.com/Deadfire1/) will release their killer new EP, My Mind Belongs To The Devil, on Saturday 29th February, via Fat Hippy Records. The Aberdeen nutters have also just dropped the track, Call From The Void – https://youtu.be/x7n-7F5LmrI  . We caught up with the band to found out more about them:

What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?

Charlie on vocals, Jonny on guitar, Boothy plays bass, and Tunk is our drummer

How and when did the band form?

This line up formed 1.5 years ago but Deadfire has been on the go for 7 years now. We have 2 previous albums, one self-titled and Hounds of Justice.

When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?

It was about a year and a half ago when we really settled in to our own. Few line-up changes before that, mostly bass players. Now we are a solid unit. We play together, tour together, drink together.

Who are your musical influences?

Motörhead, Sabbath, Nirvana, Rage, John 5, Therapy?, Every Time I Die to name a few

Where did the name of the band come from?

It was an ex bass player called Rich. After a day at the pub trying to think of a cool name, we gave up and went home then later we thought “boom Deadfire”.

How far back does your history with each other (the band members) extend?

Charlie and Tunk have been close pals for about 8 years, and Jonny and Boothy for many more. We all drank in the same pub so naturally came together. Drinking is a great passion of ours. Drunk’n’roll legends!

Are you friends from school or any family relations?

Nope, pub mates turned band mates. Best way to do it!

Where have you played or toured?

We have toured Europe twice playing in Germany, Poland, Holland, Czech Republic, we’ve also played just about everywhere in the UK. We’ve supported the likes of Phil Campbell and the bastard sons, Hawkwind, sham 69, Sister sin etc. Funny story: When we played with Phil Campbell (Motorhead guitarist), our bass player had a pedal malfunction so the stage was quiet for couple seconds then a voice from the back started an old football style chant of “Aberdeen Aberdeen Aberdeen”, there was Phil Campbell shouting at us! Charlie also owns a chicken he stole from Hawkwind.

In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?

We’re not reinventing the wheel here; we are the wheel. You’d need to see us live we live for the stage. We never disappoint live. Hard old school rock metal.

Do you have a tour on the horizon?

Will hopefully tour in the summer with some bands on our manager’s roster, still organising it. But we play where we want no matter how far.

Where can we find your social media sites?

We’re working on a website to keep it all together. Here’s our Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/2KFHdTtL6tF2VjwXlTbfDB
