Rising Irish Hard Rockers ELEMENT X have just released their engrossing new EP, All Or Nothing, via all streaming sites. With this in mind, we asked the Dubliners about their background and more:
What is the full band line-up, who sings and who plays which instrument?
Dave Cullen – Lead Vocals
Franco Buonocore – Lead Guitar
Ian Kenna – Rhythm Guitar
Hugo Hernandes – Bass Guitar/Backing Vocals
Rodrigo Alonso – Drums/ Backing Vocals.
How and when did the band form?
Ian Kenna and Cormac Murray were childhood friends who decided to form a band, the first formation consisted in, Dave Cullen, Cormac Murray, Ian Kenna, Sean O’Rourke and Rodrigo Alonso, being Ireland they all met in a pub in town to discuss about the style and what would be done about the band, it only lasted for about one year, when Cormac had to leave due some health issues, Finnish guitarist Atte Musaka was hired for the lead guitarist role, they recorded the first EP “The Prologue” in 2015, but after a few complications Atte had to go back to Finland, and Liam Noctor was hired for the position, however bassist Sean O’Rourke decided to leave the band at the end of 2016 and long-time friend of the band Hugo Hernandes was hired for the bass guitar duties, Liam left shortly after this being replaced by Ivan Rosellli who lasted for less than a year suggesting guitarist Franco Buonocore.
When and how did the band really start gelling and solidifying?
After many line-up changes the core of the band was able to remain with three pieces, which was very important to keep it alive, you can say that it has been solid from day one mainly because all the members always left in very good terms with the band, but it was around 2016 that it we reached the most solid moment being able to find the ultimate line up, which was found when the last two elements were brought in.
Who are your musical influences?
Each member brings a different influence that can go from Blues to even more Pop music,
if you had to put it as in similarities with other Heavy Metal or Hard Rock bands, you could say something like, Metallica, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Def Leppard, many other bands of the NWOBHM and Post Grunge movements. But it is far wider than that, and very difficult to put it into “main influences”.
In your opinion, how is your band different from all the other bands out there?
Element X is not any band, it is different than all the rest due many factors, such as: professionalism, we know this is our job and we must be professional about it, we can have a laugh but there’s no diva attitude on the band, we are on time and always deliver our best product not only on studio but also on the live environment we make sure that our name is not being ashamed by showing we are professionals about this on every aspect, social medias, live shows, recordings, writing, respecting other bands and promoters, etc.
Element X is also a very powerful band both in studio and live, you can feel the members of the band enjoy what they do and that is given to the crowd in every single moment of their gigs, the song writing is extremely elaborated and that is present in every single riff, beat, groove and vocal line of the band, in essential Element X has a unique clean and powerful sound that no other band has.
If a deaf person were to ask you to describe the sound of your music, how would you describe it?
If a deaf person would hear us, it would sure be described as “mind blowing” the energy delivered in our gigs from second one would be able to make that deaf person hear every note of the gig, we like to think that it is our duty when on stage to not leave anyone still.
Do you have a tour on the horizon?
We definitely have a tour on horizon, we would love to go through the UK in the entering year of 2020 hopefully we would have time to reach the continent as well after exhausting the Islands.
