Jet Pack – Chasing Sunsets.

Cheltenham Brit Rockers get ready to get your feet tapping with an extremely infectious E.P.

With this six track E.P. set for release in May, along with a video and a U.K. tour in the pipeline it promises to see busy times ahead for the four piece.

Firmly planting their Converse covered feet in the Punk/ Brit Rock camp, Jet Pack took me a little by surprise in the sense that I was expecting a diluted dose of tepid and uninspiring Rock to jump down my headphones but I must say, I’ve been very pleasantly surprised by what’s on offer.

Opening track ’Back To Life’ is a good starter, quite bouncy and melodic in its construction, it certainly gets your toes a tapping and chases the clouds away without being overly remarkable. However, as the E.P. progresses, things get steadily more impressive. Yes, you can sure latch on to the Blink 182 influence in a few places but when the band decide to branch out and stamp their own persona on the songs it really pays dividends. Vocalist Dennis Cook seems to grow in stature with his delivery with each passing track, ‘Heat Of The Moment’ is actually a good example of the depth of feeling the vocal sound manages to conjure, a track that is also very uplifting in its composition, the guitar sound balancing well with the vocal output throughout.

For me personally though, the highlight of the record is ’Chasing Sunsets’ (featuring Lauren Pryke), a beautifully stunning and emotion packed track that benefits greatly from the male/female vocal slant and a good dose of acoustic and strings thrown in as well to highlight the storyline of lost Love. If you ever needed proof that good, solid song writing is alive and well in today’s disposable, here today, gone tomorrow culture, then stick this on your turntable and allow yourself to drift away.
All in all a very impressive debut indeed, if this is anything to go by Jet Pack are very much destined for a fast rise to the top.
