Lacuna coil – Forum, London – 19th January 2018

Tonight’s gig was Lacuna Coil’s 20th aniversary show. 119 is a special number for the band, so the date of 01-19-2018 (using the US date format) tied in nicely. Originally due to be at Shepherds Bush Empire, the show sold out so quickly they upgraded to the Forum and that’s pretty much sold out too so it’s pretty packed.

Tonight’s show promised to be special from the start – the band were promising to include rarely heard tracks in the set, and with no support and a 2 hour plus set then there was plenty of scope for a great set. There were lots of video cameras in evidence too as the whole show was being filmed for release on DVD.

As soon as the curtain dropped, things looked even better – the stage was cleverly set up to resemble the inside of a circus big top, and that theme was used throughout the show. During the first song they had performers on stilts, and over the course of the show they had fire performers, acrobats, aerial performers and generally made the most of the circus theme while never letting it interfere with putting on a great show – the circus stuff just added to things.

The band were on top form and all looked to be having a great time on stage, and when Cristina talked to the audience it was clear how excited they were to be there in front of a great crowd for this special show. The promised rarities were included and the fans loved them – for most if not all the people there it was their first chance to hear these songs played live, so we had “End of time” and “One cold day” with “Wide awake” also getting an airing. They didn’t neglect the popular songs either – “Comalies”, “Our truth”, “Enjoy the silence” and many more all being played.

To top things off, Cristina Scabbia was raised up into the air on wires as a finale.

This really was a great show that proved to be a big hit with the fans. I’m sure there will be a lot of people around the world waiting impatiently for the DVD release.

A current obsession
My wings
End of time
Blood, tears, dust
The army inside
Veins of glass
One cold day
The house of shame
When a dead man walks
Tight rope
Soul into hades
I like it
Heaven’s a lie
Our truth

Wide awake

I forgive
Enjoy the silence
Nothing stands in our way
