Summary:

Up for review today is the upcoming EP Some Thing by Petrol Girls; a post-hardcore four piece London based feminist band. The Petrol Girls write about the problems they face upon their lifetime and the struggles we have had to face which they portray very well throughout their varied tracks on the EP Some Thing.

I’m going to start midway through the track list with the song Restless as it has unique tones to the vocals which remind me of the raw talent which was found before in the late Mia Zapata (from former US band The Gits). This track stands out to me as it has this classic yet raw tone which you seem to only find in post hardcore bands, it is a rare treat to come across track wise especially one as well executed as Restless.

Throughout this entire EP there are many elements of other great female fronted bands I have stumbled on across the years, there are moments I am reminded of artists such as Betty, Joan Jett, Sick Of Sarah just to name a few. I believe Petrol Girls will be a band very much to look out for when touring, it will be very interesting to see the tracks from the EP really come to life through performance.

Finally onto my personal favourite track of the EP and why…. I would have to say the Separated as I love the timing throughout, the vocals have a different feel on this track in particular not to mention the lyrics are suiting to how the majority of humanity feel at times.

An EP well worth listening to for pure variety of songs and well written tracks.
