Suffering Hour Artwork@planetmosh reviews the debut EP from Suffering Hour, out now on @tridroidrecords

Hailing from darkest Minnesota, this debut EP from Suffering Hour (who were formerly known as Compassion Dies, for the trivia freaks out there), is a solid if somewhat basic old school slab of blackened thrash meets death metal.

With the band following the traditional power metal format – with Dylan Haseltine doubling up on vocals and bass duties, Josh Raiken on guitars and Jason Oberuc on drums – they show a level of ambition and competence which is both assured and confident.  They’ve obviously been playing together for a while (they released a couple of demos under their previous monicker) as their interaction is tight, as are the songs, which, while firmly rooted in obvious influences such as Kreator, Absu and Vader, also displaying a level of progressive nous that is enough to lift them out of the abyss of derivativeness and does enough to hold your attention across the release’s compact six song span.

Track list:

Truths Of The Unknown / Prog Thrashing Death / A Dismal Beyond / Infected Skull / Enthralled In Lunacy Abyss / Compassion Dies

Recommended listening: Compassion Dies

‘Foreseeing Exemptions To A Dismal Beyond’ is out now on Tridroid Records.
