Summary:

Skarlett Riot take their sound up a notch and release a blisteringly good EP with chunky gritty guitar riffs and scorching vocals. A must have for existing fans and worthy of a listen to any discerning hard rock fan.

skarlett_riot_watbSkarlett Riot are a hard rock quartet hailing from Northern Lincolnshire. Formed in 2010 they have built a reputation for a high energy live performance with solid recorded material to back this up. Following their well received 2013 album ‘Tear Me Down’, which contained a mixture of new songs and ones fans already know, We Are The Brave contains five completely new tracks.

The intro to ‘Divide Us’ is a small masterpiece in its own right as each individual section is introduced to the listener. Starting with the dark yet catchy lead melody for a few bars before the fast relentless drums, soon to be accompanied by a killer riff and steady paced kick drum. A brief pause after the intro reaches crescendo and we are treated to the thundering attitude laden riffs that open up Divide Us. Skarlett’s commanding voice very much on display here, powerful yet perfectly balanced with the heavy rhythm section of the track. The pounding drums and lead melody of the intro make another appearance giving the music extra depth.

Cascade is a heavy number from the outset with the gritty guitars reminiscent of one of Skarlett Riot’s best known tracks, Villain. This is no clone though as the sound is bigger, the crisp solid vocals intertwined with the purposeful thumping rhythm section, an a chorus fill with slow dirty riffs from Danny that would not feel out of place in a Sabbath track.

Wake Up‘ takes the listener down a notch while still standing as a solid hard rock offering in its own right. Expertly backed by the hard hitting Riot guitar and drum sound, it is the heart felt lyrics that shine through here, with passion pouring from the vocal delivery. This continues into the anthemic Rising which opens to a face-off between a chunky lead riff and powerful rhythm section before they join forces to back another searing track complete with pummelling double kick drumming, a superb solo from Danny and of course more of Skarlett’s soaring vocals.

Closing the release is Are You Alive which is guaranteed to leave the listener begging for more. Martin’s chunky bass and more crunchy guitar from Danny combine to become an infectious aural assault which lead right into vocals that ooze attitude and passion in equal number. Reflecting on the ‘We Are The Brave’ as a whole it is clear Skarlett Riot have taken their sound up a notch and released a blisteringly good EP which will satisfy existing fans and introduce new ones alike.
